Gary
L. Beal pioneered new negotiation approaches for several of the largest
commercial casualty insurance companies in America. In one instance he
worked with 1100 claims professionals in a company that was "hemorrhaging
money" according to the report prepared by a national management consulting
firm. That company turned around their claim overpayments, with the use
of the skills Mr. Beal gave them. He then went on to work with that company,
and several others, consulting on high-stakes settlements that had significant
impact on the various companies' bottom line.
The typical approach
on a casualty settlement is to review relevant documents and claim summaries
(10-40 pages) prior to a negotiation planning meeting. Depending on the
size of the claim, a strategy meeting might last a couple of hours to
a couple of days. Mr. Beal meets with the negotiation team, but typically
does not meet with the plaintiff or their attorneys.
